Quick Paju Review

The story is about a girl Choi Eun-Mo falling in love with her teacher, Kim Joong-Shik. He eventually marries her sister. Eun-Mo leaves for a while and comes back to learn that her sister is dead. Years later she learns that her sister’s death could have been related to Joon-Shik, and is puzzled at what to do since she still has lingering feelings.

What I Liked:
I felt lost and I didn’t know what was happening .I was fixated to the screen, wondering if I missed something. While some may see it as a negative, it made me anticipate what would happen next. Even the beginning drew me in. Why was she alone? What were her circumstances? And why was it so damn foggy?
I found Choi Eun-Mo’s dilemma compelling. On one hand she believes her brother in law ruined her sister’s life and on the other she can’t account for his generosity. What choice do you make? …I am total sucker for forbidden love.
I hate the noble idiot, because they usually end up with the girl regardless. However in this case, Kim Joong-Shik doesn’t, I was intrigued. Also, any alternative seemed unrealistic. I would have done (or attempted) the same.
I loved the fights that went on between the residents and the construction workers. Was it something that often plagued Korean society? My heart was stirred.
What I Didn’t Like:
I wanted to stop watching halfway through. The way things were set up, left me with little enthusiasm.  I had gathered the information that I wanted and was tempted to think of it as short.
It was a bit boring. I jumped into the movie expecting something more suspenseful and was let down. It was like asking for ice-cream and getting frozen ice.
The film did not do a good job at conveying the flashback/flash-forward sequences. I had to double check the time line on more than one occasion.
Resonance :
The only reason I gave this film a go was because Seo Woo (Eun-Mo).  She crossed my radar in Crush and Blush and Cinderella’s Sister. It is hard to imagine her being 26. To my delight the film also included Lee Sun-Gyun (Joong- Shik). I like looking back and finding ways to like the movie more. It is definitely an acquired taste.

Rating: 8.5/10

Finding Mr. Destiny

The following is a collection of things that I just had to write down during the movie:

  • It’ll make you laugh and giggle like a school girl.
  • I’m in LOVE.
  • This movie could have been a complete bomb and I still would have enjoyed it.
  • Although it does have its fair share of coincidence and unrealistic situations, I am still willing to go along with it.
  • Damn, they can even make a super hero out of him, the next Clark Kent.
  • How can the woman manage to look good, even when they aren’t supposed to?
  • By the way, I didn’t want to say this, but you’re my first! (Paraphrase)
  • Hygiene obsessed
  • Taking the love factor out of piggy back rides, it is now a necessity.
  • The right amount of comedy, with plenty of hotness to go around.
  • Watch it. WATCH IT NOW.
  • There isn’t enough time for the normal flow of things to happen.
